August 8, 2013: heavy rains caused extensive damage to a portion of the Town. A 2 mile band of rain between Enfield Center and Trumbulls Corners Road dumped in access of 5”in a very short period. The heaviest damage occurred in the Harvey Hill Road, Enfield Main Road, portions of Bostwick Road, Fish Road, Trumbulls Corners Road, Hubbell Drive, Enfield Falls Road and Upper Treman Park. Many roads were washed out and remained closed for several days. Several homes were damaged and flooding caused extensive loss of personal property in these areas.

July 23, 2013: life member Art Covert passed away today. Art served as Captain, Assistant Chief and on our Board of Directors. Art served the Fire Company for 38 years. Art was very active with Fire Company calls and fundraisers until recent health issues sidelined his involvement.

June 8, 2013: The EVFC participate in the annual Montour Falls Firemen’s parade. We were able to pull off a 1st place for best appearing.

April 19, 2013: The EVFC would like to thank everyone for their support this year of our winter chicken BBQ’s. Unfortunate we had to turn a few people away. We wished we could accommodate everyone, but we are limited to cooking a maximum of 500 halves. As with any chicken BBQ it’s a shot in the dark as to how sales will go, picking that magic number is nearly impossible. The best we can do is cook all we can and hope for the best. The winners of this year’s prizes were John Vandermark (BBQ Grill) and Ronald Lacey (fire pit).

April 12, 2013: Last BBQ of the season this Sunday April 14th beginning at 11am until gone

March 4, 2013: Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead before you go to bed on Saturday night. Daylight Savings time officially takes affect a 2am on Sunday morning. REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR BATTERIES!!!!!!

March 4, 2013: Mark your calendar this Sunday March 10th beginning at 11am Chicken BBQ. Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead the night before!

February 14, 2013: Last Sunday’s BBQ was a little slow. Started off really busy and then slowed down around 11:30. We did end up with a few chicken halves left over. Because we at times are sold out by 11:30 or 12:00 we believe some people who may have got a late start just didn’t show up. If you are ever in doubt PLEASE just call the station at 272-8757 someone can give you an update where our sales stand. And don’t forget you can call and reserve your chicken between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 am the morning of the BBQ.

February 3, 2013: Don’t forget Chicken BBQ next Sunday

                                February 10th beginning at 11am.

January 27, 2013: Several members attended funeral services for fallen Owego firefighter Mathew Porcari. Mathew was killed while fighting a house fire in Newark Valley. This is just a reminder how dangerous firefighting can be and that it doesn’t just happen someplace else. Mathew was doing what every Fire Company does on a structure fire, an interior attack on what was believed to be a secure floor when it collapsed into the basement.

January 21, 2013: Fire Company calendars have been mailed. If you do not receive one in the mail and would like one give us a call 272-8757. These calendars are made possible in part by the businesses that provide us with ads. We strongly encourage you to support these businesses so they will continue to help us make this calendar possible. A little mention of the calendar ad to is also very helpful.

January 13, 2013: Chicken BBQ went very well. All 450 halves sold out and as the normal the next 3 months we will increase the number to 500. Because we normally sell out so early some people tend to not show up after 11:30 with fear we have sold out. There is a sure way you can make sure you get your chicken. Between 8 am and 10 am you can call the fire station at 272-8757 and reserve your order. After that just give the station a call at the same number and someone should be able to give you an idea where we stand with sales.
